KISS · Planning your day

After your wedding

The ceremony is over. Here are the next steps for your marriage certificate, photographs and remaining wedding arrangements.

Understand your marriage certificates

The certificate you receive at the ceremony is a ceremonial certificate. Your celebrant submits the marriage paperwork to the registry in the state or territory where you married, within 14 days.

An official marriage certificate from the registry is the document generally used to prove your marriage or arrange a name change. Ask your celebrant whether they are applying on your behalf or whether you need to apply yourself.

Decide whether to change your name

You can keep your name after marriage. If you choose to change it, check each organisation’s document requirements before updating your records.

Start with the records you use for identification, travel, work and banking. When booking travel, make sure the booking name matches the passport you will use.

Save your wedding photographs

When your gallery arrives, download the files and keep copies in more than one place. Save a full-resolution set for printing and use smaller copies when sharing online.

Check the gallery’s delivery message for any download instructions and expiry date. Read the photograph download guide.

Finish the practical details

Return hired items, check bond refunds and settle any agreed remaining balances. Keep copies of your receipts and booking records.

If you would like to thank your suppliers or share a review, a few specific words about your experience are useful. Only share photographs of other people in ways they are comfortable with.

Enjoy the photographs together

Choose a quiet moment to look through your gallery, including the small moments you may have missed on the day. You can decide on prints or an album once you have had time to enjoy the full story.
