Seating and standing positions for your ceremony

Start with comfort, a clear view and the conditions at your ceremony spot. You can choose the arrangement that suits you and your guests.

Where should we stand?

You do not have to choose a side based on bride or groom labels. Talk with your celebrant about where you both feel comfortable and where guests can see you.

Check the light and wind at the ceremony position. Your photographer can help you consider hair, veils and the background without making the ceremony feel like a photoshoot.

Make space for your guests

Arrange chairs so guests can hear, see and move comfortably. Leave an accessible path and suitable places for anyone using a mobility aid.

Keep close family or anyone giving a reading where they can reach the ceremony easily. Tell your suppliers about children, pets or other movements that need space.

Check the setup before guests arrive

Confirm the signing table, speaker, flowers and aisle do not block access. For an outdoor wedding, check shade and whether the ground is firm and level enough for the chairs.
