Make the alternative a real booking
Ask whether your venue has a suitable indoor space. If you are considering a hall, accommodation or someone’s home, confirm permission, capacity, access and availability.
A nearby shelter or a room at your accommodation may not be available for a ceremony without separate approval. Check the actual arrangement in writing.
Plan for more than rain
Wind, heat, poor ground conditions and site closures can also affect a ceremony. Talk with the venue or site manager about the conditions that trigger a move or cancellation.
For forests and parks, check official access and closure notices before travelling. Read the ForestrySA planning guide.
Agree on the decision and timetable
Choose a decision time that leaves guests and suppliers enough time to travel to the alternative. Confirm who contacts the venue, celebrant, photographer and anyone delivering equipment.
Keep the new address, parking instructions and contact number in one message so guests can find them easily.
Walk through the backup plan
Check where you will stand, where guests will sit, the signing table, music and photographs. Confirm extra hire or transport costs before the day.
