Decide together
Talk with your partner about what each of you would like to do. You might speak together, say a short thank-you or leave speeches out altogether.
Let your celebrant, host or venue contact know the plan so nobody unexpectedly introduces you for a speech.
Try a smaller gesture
You could write a note for guests, speak to people individually or ask someone else to give a short welcome. A letter to your partner can keep your personal thoughts private.
If you do want to speak, a few sentences are enough. Thank the people you want to acknowledge and say what sharing the day means to you.
Separate speeches from the ceremony
Reception speeches and personal readings are different from the legal words in the marriage ceremony. Your celebrant will explain what you need to say and help you practise if you are nervous.
