Kangaroo Island Elopement
Wild coastline. Untouched nature. A destination wedding that feels like an adventure.
A Kangaroo Island elopement is one of the most incredible ways to get married in South Australia.
Just a short journey from Adelaide, the island feels like another world dramatic cliffs, empty beaches, wildlife, incredible food and luxury accommodation scattered across one of Australia’s most beautiful landscapes.
For couples wanting something more meaningful than a traditional wedding, Kangaroo Island offers the perfect mix of adventure, privacy and unforgettable scenery.
Many couples travel here specifically to elope turning their wedding into a destination experience rather than just a ceremony.
Why choose a Kangaroo Island elopement?
Kangaroo Island suits couples who want space, privacy and a wedding experience that feels far removed from everyday life.
It is ideal if you love nature, road trips, wildlife, coastal scenery and the idea of turning your wedding into a few days away together.
Many couples choose Kangaroo Island because they want:
• a destination feel without leaving South Australia
• breathtaking coastal backdrops
• a more private, intimate ceremony
• amazing photo opportunities
• time to slow down & enjoy the experience
• a wedding combined with travel, accommodation & adventure
Kangaroo Island elopement packages can be simple or more experience based.
Some couples want a quiet ceremony with just the two of them. Others add a longer photography experience, a private dinner, a luxury stay or a few guests.
Our packages can suit:
• just the couple
• legals only style ceremonies in a beautiful setting
• small elopements with a handful of guests
• micro weddings with photography afterwards
• couples turning the day into a short island getaway
Because Kangaroo Island involves travel planning, accommodation and location logistics, we usually recommend allowing a little more time for the overall experience than you would for a standard Adelaide elopement.
A Kangaroo Island elopement is perfect for:
• couples wanting a destination style wedding in South Australia
• nature lovers
• adventurous couples
• second marriages wanting something more meaningful & less traditional
• couples who do not want the pressure of a big wedding
• people wanting incredible scenery in their wedding photos
• couples happy to make the wedding part of a bigger island getaway
Best Kangaroo Island elopement locations can include:
• dramatic coastal lookouts
• quiet beaches
• clifftop locations
• boutique accommodation with private space
• secluded natural settings
• locations near Penneshaw, Kingscote or the western end of the island depending on your plans
If you are planning to stay a few nights, we can help shape the flow around where you are staying so the ceremony, photos & travel all make sense together.
Kangaroo Island is visually stunning because it offers so much variety.
Official tourism material highlights the island’s rugged coastline, pristine beaches, Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch, wildlife experiences and premium food and wine culture, all of which add to the destination feel.
For wedding photography, that means:
• dramatic ocean backdrops
• raw natural textures
• soft beach light
• windswept landscapes
• beautiful accommodation settings
• a strong sense of place that feels very South Australian
The island photographs best when you lean into the natural environment rather than trying to over-style it.
One of the best things about a Kangaroo Island elopement is that it does not need to feel rushed.
Instead of trying to squeeze everything into one short moment, you can build a day or even a few days that feels relaxed, personal and memorable.
You might arrive the day before, have your ceremony somewhere beautiful, take photos across more than one spot, then finish with dinner, wine or time back at your accommodation.
That is often what makes destination elopements feel so special.

Travel to Kangaroo Island
Part of the magic of a Kangaroo Island elopement is the journey itself.
Most couples travel to the island by ferry from Cape Jervis, which is about a 90 minute drive from Adelaide. The ferry crossing takes around 45 minutes and arrives at Penneshaw, where many visitors begin exploring the island.
Some couples also choose to fly from Adelaide to Kingscote, which is the fastest way to reach the island.
Many eloping couples turn their wedding into a two or three night island getaway, enjoying the incredible scenery, wildlife and food Kangaroo Island is known for.
