Marry now, celebrate later

You can hold the ceremony first and plan a gathering later. Decide what you want from each part before making the bookings.

Choose the ceremony you want now

You might prefer a legals-only ceremony, an elopement with personal vows or a micro wedding with a few people beside you. The legal notice and document requirements still apply.

Talk with your celebrant about the date and compare the KISS package options.

Be clear with your guests

Let people know whether they are invited to the marriage ceremony, a later celebration or both. If you want to share the news afterwards, agree together on who you will tell personally first.

A later party can be a lunch, drinks, a picnic or a larger reception. You do not need to promise a date until you are ready.

Budget for both parts

Two events still have two sets of costs. List the ceremony, photographs and any later venue, catering or entertainment separately. Choose a total that you are both comfortable with.

Keep the ceremony memories

Photographs can help you share the day with people who were not there. Tell your photographer which people and moments you would like captured, and check how you can download and share the gallery.
