KISS · Wedding journal

When should you book your elopement or micro wedding?

Start when you have a date or a short list of dates and a general idea of your location and guest numbers.

Check the people and place first

Ask about the availability of your celebrant, photographer and preferred location. Popular dates and specific venues may need more planning time than a flexible weekday ceremony.

If you have several suitable dates, share them. Compare the actual package and venue conditions rather than assuming one day is always cheaper.

Allow for the legal process

Your celebrant normally needs the Notice of Intended Marriage at least one month before the wedding and no more than 18 months ahead. Shorter notice requires approval.

Allow time for documents and the required meetings. Read the marriage planning guide.

Check location deadlines

Council, park and venue applications can have separate deadlines. Confirm these before committing to other bookings or travel.

Ask about guest capacity, access, setup, a weather alternative and cancellation terms.

Send a useful first enquiry

Your date options, guest numbers, location ideas and services are enough to start. Mention your budget or anything that needs extra planning.
